Meet a Local Business
PNC Financial Services Group
Tell us about your business. What products or services do you offer, where are you located, etc.?
The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. is one of the largest diversified financial services institutions in the United States, organized around its customers and communities for strong relationships and local delivery of retail and business banking including a full range of lending products; specialized services for corporations and government entities, including corporate banking, real estate finance, and asset-based lending; wealth management and asset management. PNC is headquartered in Pittsburgh.
How does your business support local communities?
Supporting the communities where we live and work is at the heart of what we do as a Main Street Bank. At PNC, community investment is foundational to our values and interwoven into our corporate culture. We recognize that it just makes good economic sense to provide resources back into the communities where we live and work.
For example, the PNC Foundation has committed $10M grant and members of our realty services team have served as project leads in the development and construction of Second Avenue Commons. This low-barrier shelter will open in downtown Pittsburgh in the Summer of 2022 to support individuals experiencing homelessness, their partners and pets.
Additionally, last summer, the PNC Foundation, in collaboration with PNC Community Development Banking, provided the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh $10 million in the form of a Program Related Investment, which offers long-term, low interest rate financing. The vast majority of this funding benefits minority-owned small businesses in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, with 15 percent of the total investment directed toward childcare providers.
These are just a few examples of local investments in Pittsburgh, which we are proud to call our headquarters city. Similar efforts abound across the PNC footprint, exemplifying our commitment to strengthening the communities we serve.
How does the Choose Local campaign fall in line with your business’s missions or values?
We know local funding and local decision-making can have a powerful impact. PNC strives to be deeply embedded in the communities we serve across our footprint, and as part of our strategy, we look to come alongside our community partners, to connect different organizations in the market to establish efficiencies and to create more successful programming.
We are also committed to doing our part to help create a better world and life for our stakeholders. Our management of key environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and opportunities, including climate change and sustainable finance are key components of our corporate responsibility efforts. PNC has reduced its carbon emissions by 65% since 2009 and has funded $1.4 billion in renewable energy projects since 2014. PNC has also committed more than $36 billion in sustainable financing since 2016.
