What makes your products or services unique? What will people get from your business that they won’t get elsewhere?
Penn Brewery is Pittsburgh’s original craft brewery, and one of the oldest craft breweries in the country. Our 19th century brewhouse and biergarten were built by German immigrants. Our beers originally specialized in classic German lagers, and have since expanded to include IPAs, fruit and spiced ales, and more. We adhere to the strictest quality standards, using only two-row barley, and the highest grade hops, with no artificial corn or rice fillers. We’re proud to say Penn beers have won 21 Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup awards. Our food selection specializes in ‘Ethnic-Pittsburgh” fare – favorite dishes that originated with the many immigrant groups that settled in Pittsburgh. Enjoy German wursts, authentic Polish pierogi, and Hungarian goulash soup. Or try modern Pittsburgh specialties like grilled chicken salad topped with fries, or our kielbasa Reuben.

What inspires your work?
Our brewers always strive to perfect our traditional German lager beers, as that is the core of Penn Brewery. We also have a small batch system where brewers can try new recipes and beer styles. Our culinary team is always looking to bring varying German traditional foods to our menu, while trying new modern dishes in the “Ethnic-Pittsburgh” style.
How can people best support you or your community as we recover from the pandemic?
People can support Penn Brewery by coming to our restaurant for lunch, dinner or a few drinks. We have a great outdoor biergarten that is perfect for enjoying a meal and drinks on a nice day. We also host banquets and parties at our Vinial St. location. We are a production brewery, so our beers are available at local distributors, grocery stores, and other local bars and restaurants.
Are there any unique events, initiatives, sales, or opportunities at your store or community that people should be aware of?
We host brewery tours once a month. Tours are lead by a member of our brewing team. Information about tours can be found on our website or on Facebook. We are also hosting our annual Oktoberfest once again. This event is held the last two weekends of September. The dates this year are September 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26.
Please provide any other information you want to share that these questions did not cover!
We have two locations. Our main location is at 800 Vinial St. We also have a second location in Concourse A at the Pittsburgh International Airport, so please stop by for some great Penn Brewery beer and food before your next flight.
