Meet a Local Business

City Books

What makes your products or services unique? What will people get from your business that they won’t get elsewhere?

Founded in 1984, City Books is a small, friendly shop with an emphasis on both old-world charm & modern customer service. Located in the heart of the Old Allegheny Historic District, the used book shop features great lighting, a gender-neutral bathroom, free Wi-Fi, and soft jazz.

What’s the best way that interested customers can connect with you or find more information?

Find us at our website! We are also on all social media at @citybookspgh. Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram!

What inspires your work?

Whether on a nightstand or on a shelf, books keep us grounded in empathy and compassion.

How can people best support you or your community as we recover from the pandemic?

Readers can shop in the store Wed-Sun 11-5, or find us online at Bookshop.org.

Are there any unique events, initiatives, sales, or opportunities at your store or community that people should be aware of?

If we don’t have a book in the shop, either new or used, we can order it for a reader for home delivery or in-store pickup.

Please provide any other information you want to share that these questions did not cover!

We are very engaged with the Pittsburgh community. Earlier this year, we collected used books, and raised almost $4000 for new books, to build a library at the Shuman Detention Center.
